We walk the property with you, measure it, and translate how you actually want to use the space into a layout that works with the grade, the drainage and the architecture of the house.

Designing for how the space gets used

A dining area needs roughly 12 by 14 feet to hold a table with chairs pulled out. A conversation area around a fire pit needs about 14 feet of diameter. Getting those numbers right at the design stage is what separates a patio people live on from one that gets used twice a year.

We also plan for the things that are expensive to add later: sleeves for lighting and gas lines, footings for future pergolas, and drainage tied into the finished grade instead of retrofitted around it.

Budgeting and phasing

Full backyard transformations in Central NJ commonly run $25,000 to $150,000+, and not everyone builds it all at once. We design the complete vision, then break it into phases that can be built independently without tearing out previous work — patio and drainage first, walls and steps second, kitchen and lighting last.
