Plantings are what make hardscape look like it belongs. We design beds that read well in every season, use plants sized for the space they will occupy in ten years, and prepare the soil so they survive the first two summers.

    Quick answer

We design and install planting plans built for New Jersey Zone 6b/7a — foundation beds, privacy screens, shade gardens and pollinator plantings — with soil prep, proper spacing for mature size, and deer-resistant selections where pressure is high.

Planting plans built for New Jersey conditions

Central NJ sits in USDA Zone 6b to 7a with heavy clay soils, real deer pressure in most Somerset and Hunterdon towns, and wet springs followed by dry Augusts. Plant selection has to account for all four.

    • Foundation plantings that stay in scale with the house
    • Evergreen privacy screening along property lines
    • Deer-resistant selections where browsing pressure is heavy
    • Native and pollinator-friendly plantings
    • Shade gardens under mature canopy
    • Seasonal color at entries, walkways and mailboxes

Soil prep is most of the job

Dropping plants into unamended clay is the most common reason a new bed looks tired by its second summer. We break up compacted subsoil, amend with compost, set the root flare at the correct height, and mulch to a 2–3 inch depth without volcano-mulching the trunks.

    Bed edging and hardscape integration

Clean bed lines do as much visual work as the plants. We cut crisp spade edges or install steel, paver or stone edging, and tie planting beds into patios, walls and walkways so the whole property reads as one design rather than separate projects.

Landscape Design & Planting: common questions

When is the best time to plant in New Jersey?

Spring and early fall are ideal. Fall planting from September through early November gives roots time to establish before summer heat, though we plant successfully through the growing season with adequate watering.

    Do you install deer-resistant plants?

Yes. In heavily browsed areas of Hillsborough, Montgomery and Branchburg we build plant palettes around deer-resistant species and can add repellent programs or fencing recommendations where needed.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance for new plantings?

Yes. We offer seasonal maintenance including pruning, bed care, mulch and cleanups, and we can cover new plantings through their establishment period.

Can you fix an overgrown existing landscape?

Often, yes. Many properties need renovation rather than replacement — removing overgrown foundation shrubs, hard-pruning what can recover, and replanting the gaps at the right scale.
